BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & MARKETING INTERN
Author Central Station | New York City Area | Part-Time, Hybrid
About Author Central Station: Author Central Station (ACS) is a growing literary and media startup that helps authors and readers connect through book discovery, community-building, and live events. We are building a platform where authors can reach new audiences, and readers can discover books, attend signings, readings, and discussions, and engage with literary communities.
We are looking for an enthusiastic undergraduate or graduate student who wants hands-on experience helping build an early-stage company. If you love books, writing, social media, public events, entrepreneurship, or bringing people together, we would love to hear from you
Position Overview: The Business Development & Marketing Intern will work directly with the CEO on real projects across marketing, customer outreach, events, business development, and startup operations. You do not need to know how to do everything on day one. We care most about curiosity, reliability, initiative, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.
Learning and Project Areas. Depending on interests and strengths, the intern may:
- Help recruit authors, readers, venues, university groups, and community partners to join ACS.
- Support book signings, readings, author talks, and other literary events, including venue research, promotion, registration, and follow-up.
- Create social-media content, email outreach, promotional materials, and audience-growth ideas.
- Help maintain author, reader, venue contacts, and customer relationship management workflows.
- Research authors, bookstores, literary organizations, partnerships, and new market opportunities.
- Contribute to business development activities for a growing startup.
Who We Are Looking For
Students from business, marketing, communications, English, writing, publishing, media, entrepreneurship, technology, or other fields are welcome. Previous internship experience is not required. We are especially interested in students who are motivated, dependable, comfortable communicating with people, willing to take initiative, responsive to feedback, and able to follow through on commitments. Experience from classes, student organizations, volunteering, events, social media, part-time jobs, or personal projects all counts. Applicants should be able to commit approximately 10–12 hours per week for six months, with occasional in-person activities in New York City.
Internship Structure
This is a part-time, unpaid educational internship with a flexible schedule built around academic commitments. The internship includes direct CEO mentorship, regular feedback, exposure to multiple business functions, and opportunities to create portfolio-ready work. Academic or practicum credit may be supported where permitted by the student’s university. High-performing interns may be considered for future paid opportunities
Application Requirements
Please submit: a resume, a short statement explaining why the opportunity interests you and what you would be excited to contribute, and your anticipated availability and preferred start date.
Optional: Include a work sample or project, such as writing, social media, an event, presentation, design, or school project.
The perfect candidate does not need to meet every qualification. If you are excited about books, people, events, and helping build something new—and you are ready to learn and work hard—we would like to hear from you. Author Central Station welcomes students from all backgrounds.
